COVID-19 Advice for Parents in Greater Manchester
Plans for Home Learning are in place for your son to continue with his education. Staff have provided resources on the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and will be issuing regular guidance and advice to classes on the activities to complete. Boys can also access the school portal.
Your son has been told how to access these resources and has the necessary passwords. Books have been taken home so written work can be completed.
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR EFFECTIVE HOME LEARNING
Being educated at home is very different to being in a school environment and routine is key. Make a plan together about the schoolwork your son needs to complete and work with them to prioritise what they need to focus on. We recommend that he follows his weekly timetable, completing the tasks and activities across different subject areas. Build in scheduled break and lunch times and aim to complete the learning day around 3.pm.
Relaxation and exercise are just as important as school work. It is important that elements of both are part of our daily routines. Where possible, encourage your son to get some fresh air. It is important to recognise that isolation can have a negative effect on mental health and happiness so do encourage your son to connect with his friends or wider family using online methods. Although it is important that your son has some time off technology each day.
WELLBEING AND SUPPORT
Children need some independence and time to connect with others. They also need reassurance, kindness and love so keep an eye on your son’s happiness, emotions and moods. Talk to your son about any concerns or worries they have during uncertain times. Listen to them, support them and try to keep them motivated.
KEEPING IN TOUCH
Take an interest in the work that your son completes and submits to his teachers. Staff will be setting weekly tasks and sending messages. Try to monitor what is being completed. There will be regular updates on our website and via twitter. Monitor these sites regularly. If you have any questions do direct your questions to the appropriate individual.
The challenges we are currently facing are unprecedented and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support. The health, wellbeing and education of our school community remain our priority and we will continue to update you as we find a way forward following all official guidance.
This is an unprecedented situation and there are likely to be ongoing updates in the advice given to us. Therefore, we may need to make further changes at short notice. The safety of our school community is paramount to us.
