Literacy involves the integration of listening, speaking, reading, writing and critical thinking.  West Hill School, along with your help will give each boy the opportunity to enhance and develop these skills.

Here are some of the most popular ‘boys’ books found in the school eLibrary:

  Anthony Horowitz Alex Rider series
  J.K. Rowling Harry Potter series
  Suzanne Collins The Hunger Games
  Katherine Paterson Bridge to Terabithia
  Brandon Mull Fablehaven
John Boyne The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas
  Darren Shan

Cirque Du Freak

In school we are looking at lots of opportunities to raise boys’ achievement.

Reading is a good way in which to improve understanding, vocabulary and develop the skills that are valued throughout society.

The school eLibrary is a great way to read books on a computer, smartphone or tablet device, more information can be found on our eLibrary page.  Why not fill in a book review after you’ve read a book for literacy VIVO points. (book review)

All KS3 pupils have their own login to the website Literacy Planet, which offers a huge range of activities and games to improve their literacy and is used by the English department as a homework resource.

If you would like to improve your speaking and critical thinking skills get involved in the school debating team.   Debating is not only recognised in school but also with employers and higher education establishments.
