Rockley Water Sports

Rockley is a residential water sports activity trip to France, during the summer of 2017.   Pupils in all year groups may apply.

The group will consist of 40+ pupils and 5 members of staff.  We will be staying at Camping du Lac, a 4 star campsite near Mimizan in the south of France.  The lake is fresh water, fringed by sandy beaches in the Landes region of south-west France famous for its pine forests and spectacular Atlantic coastline stretching from Arcachon in the north to Biarritz in the south.

The trip is being organised in conjunction with Rockley Adventure, whose activity centres are recognised by the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) and are licensed in the UK by the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA).

The total cost of the trip is £555 and includes all transport from and to school in an executive coach, ferry crossing, travel insurance, full board from arrival at the Rockley centre to departure, all Rockley activities, evening entertainment and hire of buoyancy aids.

The programme of activities organised by Rockley Adventure will include dinghy sailing, catamaran sailing, windsurfing, kayaking and mountain biking, as well as visits to the Dune du Pyla (the largest sand dune in Europe!) and Arcachon, a nearby seaside resort.  In the evening there is a full programme of activities – for instance beach olympics, a French night, volleyball, etc.  Pupils will be supervised at all times during the trip.

Payment Schedule

Non-refundable deposit £100    Wednesday 2nd November 2016
2nd payment £150   Friday 27th January 2017
3rd payment £150   Friday 24th March 2017
Final balance £155   Wednesday 7th June 2017

Should more than 41 pupils wish to go names will be drawn at random to allocate places.  Any remaining pupils will be placed on a reserve list and their deposits returned.

Please make cheques payable to West Hill School

Please note that withdrawal from the trip may incur loss of any payments made unless the reason for cancellation is covered by the travel insurance policy.

The success of such a trip depends on the good behaviour and self-discipline of the pupils, the school therefore, reserves the right to refuse a place to any pupil whose school record is unsatisfactory.

Rockley  2017 - Final Travel Arrangements

We will be travelling on a ‘Watt’s’ 57 seater coach.  Fitted with air conditioning, a DVD player, reclining seats, lap belts and toilet facilities.

The boys will be asked to carry their sleeping bag and pillow onto the coach so please pack this separately.

Also, a small bag for journey essentials such as toothbrushes, books to read, drinks or snacks (No fizzy drinks or chewing gum – these will be confiscated and disposed of).

All other luggage will be stored in the hold, below the coach and will not be accessible until we arrive at the centre.

On the day, the boys will be required to change into a travel T-Shirts (provided).

It is recommended that the boys should be given a small amount of English money for the service station stops on the way down to Calais (£10).  Spending money for the week (Maximum 200 Euros) and English money for the return Journey (£10) should be given to travel group leaders when you register.

Any medication should be clearly named and also be given to travel group leaders.  It is important to note that any health issues stated on the medical forms, have been communicated to the centre.  Their risk management procedures do not allow participants to join activities unless their medication is presented.  This includes allergy and Asthma treatments.  Travel sickness medication should also be handed over at this point.

Passports and valid E-111 (EHIC) cards – (check the date) must also be given to travel group leaders at the point of registration as travel will not be permitted without these items.

We strongly recommend that electrical devices such as smartphones, tablets etc. are not brought on the trip as the boys will not have the facility to charge them or to keep them secure.  As this is an activity holiday in shared, tented accommodation, they can easily become lost or damaged.

As is also explained in the exam guide, to pick up GCSE results up on behalf of your son, he must send a signed note to Mr O’Brien, the exams officer, authorising them to be collected by you.

If you do not get them to send a signed note then the school will be unable to release their results.

We are unable to make these arrangements for you, you need to make sure that this has been done before schools and colleges close for summer.
