West Hill Participates in Worldwide Video Study
17 July 2018
The Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS) Video Study has captured footage of teachers from across the world teaching mathematics in a bid to analyse the elements of teaching and the responses of pupils. It has been run by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The research has looked specifically at the teaching of mathematics across nine countries and 750 teachers have been filmed as they teach quadratic equations. At West Hill, two mathematics lessons each were videotaped from two teachers, alongside the completion of surveys with pupils and teachers.
The Rt Hon Nick Gibb MP wrote to us in August 2017 congratulating West Hill School for being part of this pioneering study. He wrote, “I appreciate that participating in this study will involve some additional work for your mathematics department, but it is through this video study, and other international studies……that the Government can gain an understanding of where improvements will be most effective”.
