Parents' Association - Letter October 2018
17 October 2018
The West Hill Parents' Association has been running for many years. It is chaired by the Headteacher and is run by a secretary who is the parent of a boy at the school. As you may be aware, currently the only source of funding has been the monthly prize draw. Over the years, this has enabled the PA to fund different projects and purchase specific materials for numerous departments within the school.
The PA used to hold around 4-6 meetings per year but attendance reduced over time and at the last meeting, there were only a couple of parents present. The last secretary left as he was no longer a parent and so that just left the treasurer. There have been no meetings that have taken place for a couple of years now and so the monthly draw fund has just been ongoing behind the scenes.
The PA is now at a crossroads and a decision needs to be made as to whether to continue with it or not. I wanted to see what interest there was among current parents to see if there was still an appetite for a PA and whether there were enough volunteers to take control of it and move it forward with fresh impetus. It would be a shame to close it down but if there is no interest from parents to continue to run it, then that is really the only option. I fear that if it were to be shut down at this stage, it would be difficult to ever resurrect it again in the future.
Therefore, if you would be interested in playing an active role within the PA and taking it forward, please contact me on If it turns out that there are parents who are keen to bring fresh ideas, then we can re-launch the PA with some promotion in the school to parents. I would also be interested in any general comments you may have about the PA.
Treasurer of the West Hill Parents' Association.
