CANDIDATE STATEMENTS FOR ELECTION OF PARENT GOVERNOR
I graduated with a degree in Geology from Sheffield University in 1981 and have worked as Geotechnical Engineer/Engineering Geologist in the construction industry for over 25 years. I was previously employed as parent governor at Ridgehill Primary School. I would like become a parent governor to represent parents with children attending West Hill School on the Governing Body. I also have a vision for West Hill to become an outstanding school and hopefully I can assist in improving standards at the school so it can achieve this goal.
My son is in Year 9 and having already had one son through the school, I know it very well. The ethos implemented by Mr Hewitt and continued by Mr Harrison is something I am keen to maintain. I currently work for an organisation who provide leadership development for leaders in Children’s Services and so have knowledge of the sector and would be able to bring ideas and good practice that I hear about. I am currently Treasurer of the Parents Association which is about to be relaunched and have been involved in various fundraisers over the last 8 years.
I am a driven individual who believes in education to provide both academic and social development for young people. As a leukaemia researcher and lecturer at the University of Manchester I have a PhD and skills in project management, financial planning, grant writing, course and subject matter design and implementation, alongside understanding the education framework. Alongside I am a Director of Ridgehill Big Local Enterprises, who leases Stamford Park Boating Lake and Chadwick Dam. In this role, I manage the business, staff and finances and write grants to develop a business to support an area of economic deprivation.
