Pupil Premium
What is Pupil Premium?
The pupil premium is a grant given by the government to schools in England to decrease the attainment gap for the most disadvantaged students.
Evidence suggests that children from disadvantaged backgrounds generally face extra challenges in reaching their potential at school and therefore often do not perform as well as their peers.
At West Hill School, we firmly believe that every barrier to accessing the full curriculum will be removed for all boys. We use pupil premium funding to ensure that a students’ education and participation will not be limited by their socioeconomic background.
Through sensitivity and discretion, we endeavour that there is no way to differentiate between those students who receive pupil premium funding and those who do not.
We understand that disadvantaged pupils are not a homogenous group and that their needs differ. Through pupil premium funding we aim to support our students in a ‘need not label’ capacity.

Unicycle
Unicycle is a scheme that promotes and encourages the idea and practice of re-cycling, re-homing and re-using uniform.
Unicycle offers students and their families the opportunity to donate, swap, and/or buy good quality preowned and unwanted pieces of uniform at a heavily discounted price.
Unicycle takes into consideration the impact that unwanted clothing can have on the environment, whilst also considering how the cost of new uniforms can be a burden for our families.
There are a number of Unicycle events throughout the year, where students and families can come along and “shop” for what they need. In addition, Unicycle offers a discreet service where articles of clothing can be requested as and when they are needed.
Discrete requests can be made by emailing unicycle@westhillschool.co.uk or by contacting Reception.
