Curriculum Information

Qualifications

Two qualifications are offered to Year 10 and 11 students.

Edexcel GCSE Business Studies is structured into two themes, taking students from how entrepreneurs start businesses through to growing and global businesses.  This linear course concludes with two equally weighted exam papers focusing on each theme. The skills the students will develop during this qualification is learning how to apply knowledge and understanding to different business contexts. These include businesses ranging from small enterprises to large multinationals and businesses operating in local, national and global contexts.  They will develop an understanding of how these contexts impact on business behaviour. They will use business terminology to identify and explain business activity.  And finally apply business concepts to familiar and unfamiliar contexts.

The second qualification is a NCFE Level 1/2 Technical Award in Business & Enterprise. This is designed for learners who want an introduction to business and enterprise that includes a vocational and project-based element. The modular qualification has two assessments externally-set by NCFE: one non-exam assessment (NEA) and one written examined assessment.  The skills the students will develop during this qualification that will help them to work in the business and enterprise sector, such as decision-making, problem-solving, planning, evaluation and professional behaviours.
