Curriculum Aims
We aim for every boy to:
- develop a detailed knowledge and understanding of the core religious and spiritual beliefs of the main world religions;
- be able to analyse and reflect upon their own beliefs and judgements;
- be able to interpret and evaluate the views of others;
- go into the wider world with the knowledge and understanding necessary to appreciate, respect and interact with people of different cultures or backgrounds;
- independently question, analyse and challenge information given;
- develop high levels of literacy, writing articulately and paying attention to fine detail.
Curriculum Information
Qualifications
We follow the Edexcel Specification B at GCSE (Christianity: Religion and Ethics 1B and Islam: Peace and Conflict 2C). This course is assessed by examinations only at the end of Year 11: one examination on Christianity and one on Islam which each count for 50% of the examination grade. Students will develop the skills of reflection, explanation, evaluation, analysis and interpretation during this course.
Summary of Assessment
Paper 1: Religion and Ethics: Christiainity
Topics assessed: Christian Beliefs, Marriage and the Family, Living the Christian Life, Matters of Life and Death.
- Examination of 1 hour and 45 minutes
- 50% of the GCSE grade.
Paper 2: Religion, Peace and Conflict: Islam
Topics assessed: Muslims Beliefs, Crime and Punishment, Living the Muslim Life, Peace and Conflict
- Examination of 1 hour and 45 minutes
- 50% of the GCSE grade.
All students will sit the same set of examination.
